Naturally Colorado: Expanding Horizons, Uniting the State's Natural and Organic Ecosystem

In a strategic move to broaden its reach and better serve the entire state, Naturally Boulder, a prominent natural and organic products industry trade group, has merged with Denver-based Colorado Food Works (CFW) to form the new entity, Naturally Colorado. This merger aims to unite the state's thriving natural and organic ecosystem, fostering collaboration and growth across all regions.

Empowering Colorado's Natural and Organic Businesses Statewide

Embracing a Statewide Approach

The decision to rebrand as Naturally Colorado reflects the organization's commitment to serving the natural and organic community throughout the state, rather than being solely focused on the Boulder area. This shift in focus allows the organization to cater to a wider range of businesses, from startups to established companies, across the Front Range and beyond."By saying, 'We're Naturally Colorado,' we are able to say that we are here for everyone in Colorado," explains Kristine Carey, the executive director of Naturally Colorado. This inclusive approach addresses the common misconception that Naturally Boulder was exclusively for Boulder-based companies, when in reality, the trade group welcomed members from across the state.

Combining Forces for Greater Impact

The merger with Colorado Food Works, a Denver-based trade group that also supported the natural and organic food and beverage industry, further strengthens Naturally Colorado's reach and capabilities. Sari Kimbell, the former president of CFW, expressed excitement about the union, stating, "We began in 2016 to replicate what Naturally Boulder was already accomplishing. We've grown to a network of 200 entrepreneurs across the Front Range, so it makes sense that we would join forces."While Naturally Boulder and CFW shared similar missions, they catered to slightly different segments of the industry. Naturally Boulder focused on natural and organic companies, ranging from startups to established businesses, while CFW primarily served small, early-stage food and beverage startups. By combining their expertise and resources, Naturally Colorado aims to provide comprehensive support to the entire natural and organic ecosystem across the state.

Expanding Partnerships and Programming

Under the Naturally Colorado banner, the organization plans to continue hosting its popular annual events, such as Pitch Slam and Spring Fling, while also introducing new programs tailored to different regions and sectors within the state. This expansion of programming will allow Naturally Colorado to better address the unique needs and challenges faced by businesses in various parts of Colorado.Additionally, the organization is poised to strengthen its partnerships with key players in the industry, including Colorado State University's Spur and Food Innovation Center in Denver, as well as major retailers like Lucky's Market, Kroger, Natural Grocers, and Whole Foods. These collaborations will enable Naturally Colorado to leverage a broader network of resources and support for its members.

Strengthening Governance and Leadership

To facilitate the integration of the two organizations, Naturally Colorado is expanding its board of directors to include several former CFW board members. This move aims to provide the combined entity with increased capacity and expertise to drive its initiatives forward.Notably, Sari Kimbell, the former leader of CFW, is expected to apply for a seat on Naturally Colorado's board, further solidifying the synergies between the two organizations. This collaborative approach to governance will ensure that the diverse perspectives and experiences of both Naturally Boulder and CFW are represented in the decision-making process.

Celebrating Boulder's Continued Prominence

Despite the expanded statewide focus, Naturally Colorado's leadership emphasizes that Boulder's status as a hub for natural and organic innovation remains intact. "Boulder is where new companies challenge the system and bring new ideas and innovations to industry," says Brandon Hernandez, the board chairman of Naturally Colorado. The organization recognizes that while the natural and organic ecosystem is thriving across Colorado, Boulder continues to be the epicenter of this movement. Naturally Colorado aims to leverage the wealth of knowledge, mentorship, and collaborative mindset that Boulder has cultivated, and share it with the rest of the state."Boulder is still 'truly the center' of Colorado's natural and organic products universe," affirms Kristine Carey. "But there really is an energy that's happening" beyond the city limits, and Naturally Colorado is committed to ensuring that all regions of the state can benefit from the state's natural and organic expertise and resources.
