The National Association of Realtors (NAR) is embarking on a new era defined by openness and a renewed focus on its members, as it prepares to unveil its 2026-2028 Strategic Plan. This ambitious initiative, set to be presented and voted on by NAR's executive committee this fall, aims to redefine the association's operational framework and its commitment to serving real estate professionals.

In a recent communication to its members, NAR CEO Nykia Wright underscored the organization's dedication to leading with enhanced transparency. She articulated that this strategic blueprint will serve as a guiding force, detailing how the association intends to modernize, operate, and deliver value to its members in the years to come. Wright's emphasis on transparency signals a shift towards greater accountability and direct engagement with the real estate community, ensuring that the organization's direction is clear and widely understood by all stakeholders.

Prior to formulating the strategic plan, the National Association of Realtors actively engaged with its member base to gather insights and perspectives. Throughout 2025, the association conducted extensive outreach, including forums, surveys, and focus groups, reaching over 100,000 NAR members. Additionally, leaders convened with numerous real estate industry figures, ranging from major corporate entities to regional brokerage firms. State and local association executives were also encouraged to facilitate their own broker summits, broadening the scope of feedback collected. This comprehensive approach underscores NAR's commitment to ensuring that diverse voices from across the industry contribute to shaping its future direction.

At the core of the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan is a freshly articulated value proposition: \"NAR empowers Realtors by helping them thrive in their businesses. It achieves this goal by advocating on their behalf, providing market intelligence and research tools, offering professional development and education, maintaining high standards and elevating the Realtor brand. By supporting Realtors, NAR protects and advances the right of Americans to own real estate.\" This statement reinforces the principle that all of NAR's endeavors should be meticulously aligned with fostering the success of its members. The strategic priorities outlined include streamlining operations through advanced technology and artificial intelligence, bolstering financial management systems, refreshing the onboarding experience for new members, and enhancing dynamic data dashboards to offer real-time market insights. Furthermore, the plan aims to elevate the Realtor brand's public perception, which will involve a significant refresh of NAR's consumer advertising campaigns.

As part of its commitment to heightened transparency, NAR has announced that it will, for the first time, publish an Annual Report. This report will offer additional context to its 2024 990 filing, provide detailed information on NAR's operations and strategic priorities for 2025, and outline its objectives for 2026. While not designed to mirror a publicly traded company's financial disclosures, this report signifies a substantial leap forward in the association's journey toward greater openness and accountability. Wright expressed her gratitude for the invaluable contributions of members, acknowledging that their ideas, feedback, and critiques are fundamental to building an association that truly embodies the professionalism, resilience, and leadership demonstrated by Realtors in their communities.
