Tarrytown Music Hall Secures Funding for Impactful School Residencies

The Tarrytown Music Hall has received a significant financial boost to its school residencies program, which provides free access to performing arts experiences for children in the Tarrytown School District. The $25,000 grant from Assemblywoman MaryJane Shimsky will help the Music Hall continue its mission of introducing young minds to the transformative power of the arts.

Unlocking the Potential of the Next Generation through the Arts

Reviving the Performing Arts Experience Post-COVID

The Tarrytown Music Hall's school residencies program has been a beacon of hope for the local community, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Aladdin Jr. in March 2021 was our first in-person residency since COVID and it was a tearful event," explained Theatre Manager Karina Ringeisen. "Parents and students were so happy to be able to have a shared experience again." The program has since doubled in attendance, underscoring the profound impact it has on the lives of the participating students.

Fostering a Lifelong Appreciation for the Arts

The school residencies program at the Tarrytown Music Hall is more than just a one-time performance. It is a gateway to a world of artistic exploration and personal growth. "School residencies are such a great way to introduce kids to theater and music, and many then join our regular Academy programs, which we offer on a 'Pay What You Can' basis," stated Executive Director Bjorn Olsson. This inclusive approach ensures that every child, regardless of their financial circumstances, can access the transformative power of the arts.

Expanding the Reach of the Performing Arts

The Tarrytown Music Hall's school residencies program extends the theatrical experience beyond the confines of the stage. "The Music Hall invites schoolchildren from Morse and Washington Irving elementary schools and Sleepy Hollow Middle School to attend the shows, extending the theatrical experience beyond the stage proscenium," Ringeisen explained. This innovative approach not only exposes more children to the performing arts but also fosters a deeper connection between the community and the Music Hall.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Artists and Performers

The Tarrytown Music Hall's school residencies program is more than just a performance opportunity; it is a platform for nurturing the next generation of artists and performers. "Broadway performer and educator Lauryn Ciardullo is also involved in the residencies," Olsson revealed, highlighting the caliber of talent that the Music Hall brings to its young participants. This collaboration with industry professionals not only inspires the students but also equips them with the skills and confidence to pursue their artistic passions.

Expanding the Performing Arts Ecosystem

The Tarrytown Music Hall's school residencies program is part of a broader ecosystem of performing arts initiatives that the organization offers. "In addition to residencies, the Music Hall provides music scholarships and a Pay-What-You-Can policy so everyone may participate in year-round music, theater, dance, voice and aerial silks programs, regardless of financial limitations," Olsson stated. This holistic approach ensures that the performing arts are accessible to all members of the community, fostering a vibrant and inclusive cultural landscape.

Collaborating with Community Partners

The Tarrytown Music Hall's school residencies program is made possible through the generous support of various community partners. "Other donors to the Music Hall's Academy residences include ArtsWestchester, Westchester County (with the support of County Executive George Latimer), The Kids' Club of the Tarrytowns, The Miles Hodsdon Vernon Foundation, Inc., The Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns, and The Tammy & Keith Anderson Foundation," Ringeisen revealed. This collaborative effort underscores the community's commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists and performers.
