A grassroots organization in Montana has successfully concluded its fourth year of fundraising efforts aimed at enhancing child welfare services. The initiative, known as 1000 In Action, was established by Fairfield residents Jen Barnett, Jennifer Gruber-Fischer, and Tasha Johnson in response to a tragic incident in 2021. This group aims to secure financial support from at least 1,000 entities—whether businesses or individuals—to contribute $100 annually, thereby generating a substantial fund dedicated to various children's programs. In 2024, the group achieved its highest fundraising total yet, raising $60,000, all of which was allocated directly to community-based services for children.

The foundation of 1000 In Action is built on volunteerism and community engagement. An advisory committee composed of diverse professionals such as fire chiefs, NICU nurses, child psychologists, and SVU responders oversees the distribution of funds. These volunteers ensure that every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting local initiatives without any administrative overhead. The success of this endeavor lies in its ability to mobilize both local businesses and individuals who are committed to making a difference in the lives of children.

This year, the funds were distributed among several organizations that provide critical support for children in need. Toby’s House Crisis Nursery received $19,200, while the Fairfield Leading Youth Afterschool Program obtained $10,000. Family Promise of Great Falls and Alliance for Youth of Great Falls each received $6,500. Peace Place and 4 the KIDS Montana benefited from donations of $6,000 and $5,000 respectively. Additionally, Victim Witness Assistance Services received $1,500. Each recipient plays a vital role in ensuring that children receive the necessary support and resources they need.

The emotional impact of these contributions cannot be overstated. For the founders, handing over the checks symbolizes not only a significant achievement but also a testament to the power of community collaboration. As one of the founders remarked, it brings tears of joy and pride, reflecting the collective effort that makes such achievements possible. Looking ahead, the group plans to host its annual 'Color a Brighter Future' fundraiser in June, continuing its mission to enhance child welfare through grassroots efforts.

The dedication and commitment of 1000 In Action highlight the importance of community-driven initiatives in addressing critical social issues. By fostering partnerships between local businesses, individuals, and service providers, this group exemplifies how collective action can lead to meaningful change. Their ongoing efforts promise to bring continued support and improvements to child welfare services in Montana.
