During our extensive hands-on preview at Capcom’s Osaka headquarters, having immersed ourselves in the game’s open beta last month, one aspect that immediately caught our attention was the attack hitstop. It has made a remarkable comeback, enhancing the gameplay in a significant way.

Weapons and Weak Spots
In the updated build, weapons now cleave through weak spots with greater exaggeration and a more palpable impact. This is exactly what many fans had been longing for after the beta seemed to lack that certain oomph. Take the hammer and greatsword, for example. These slower weapons with hard-hitting charged attacks benefit immensely from the added hitstop. When using the hammer, monster skulls ring like bells under its heft, adding to the immersive experience. The greatsword also slows just briefly, selling the force of your swings with great effectiveness.Director's Perspective
Director Yuya Tokuda was more than happy to restore the hitstop. In a group interview, he explained that some changes in the hitstop were intentional, while others were due to game settings. When Monster Hunter World was released, overseas users had commented that the hitstop was too hard, making it difficult for them to play. But now, seeing the positive feedback from those who experienced the Wilds open beta test, it's clear that the hitstop is a beloved feature. Tokuda also mentioned that in the full product version, there will be further adjustments to the finishing moves and hitstop.Improved Gameplay
Weapons definitely feel a lot better in the newer build. The added hitstop gives a more satisfying sense of combat, making each swing and attack feel more impactful. It enhances the overall gameplay and brings back the essence of Monster Hunter. If you were worried about how weapons would feel after the Wilds beta, those worries can now be put to rest. We are truly back to the glory of Monster Hunter with the restored hitstop.Monster Hunter Wilds isn't the only upcoming Capcom action RPG. The company has also revealed Monster Hunter Outlanders, a mobile title with a "massive open world," adding to the excitement in the gaming community.
