Microsoft Unveils Xbox Cloud Gaming Feature

Microsoft has made a significant announcement regarding Xbox Cloud Gaming. Starting from today, users will be able to stream select games they own on various devices such as TVs, Meta Quest VR headsets, and supported browsers on phones, tablets, and PCs in every country where Xbox Cloud Gaming is available. The company plans to expand this feature to Xbox consoles and the Windows Xbox app next year.

Expand Your Gaming Horizons with Xbox Cloud Gaming

Availability and Requirements

To utilize this exciting feature, one needs to be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member. This means that gamers are no longer restricted to streaming only the games available on the service. At the beginning, the "stream your own game" option supports 50 titles, with more to be added in the future. You can enjoy popular games like Cyberpunk 2077, Stray, The Witcher 3, Balatro, Animal Well, NBA 2K25, Baldur's Gate 3, and several Final Fantasy games. Just look for the "stream your own game" section on Cloud Gaming.

It's important to note that only digitally purchased games are eligible for streaming. For example, you won't be able to stream a physical copy of Farming Simulator 25 through this feature. However, if you have the disc in your Xbox Series X, remote play remains an option.

Implications and Future Prospects

While it's great that people have more ways to play their games, this move aligns with Xbox's gradual shift towards an all-digital future. Gamers without access to fast and reliable Internet connections may find themselves at a disadvantage. On the other hand, this also allows Xbox to expand its cloud gaming offerings without having to pay third-party developers and publishers significant amounts to get their projects on Game Pass.

The "stream your own game" initiative ties into Microsoft's new ad campaign, emphasizing that various devices can become an Xbox even if they aren't typically associated with gaming. This rollout comes a day after Sony started publicly testing a cloud gaming option on PlayStation Portal, which is a feature that the device should have had from the start.

Update November 20, 1:41 PM ET: Xbox has clarified that only digitally purchased games are eligible for streaming. This clarification ensures that users have a clear understanding of the requirements.
