Following the spring game, Michigan football swiftly addressed their running back depth concerns by securing a commitment from University of Massachusetts running back CJ Hester. With the loss of Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana earlier in the year, the Wolverines needed to bolster their backfield behind established players Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes. Hester's addition brings experience and potential to a competitive position group that also includes incoming recruits Jasper Parker and Donovan Johnson.

CJ Hester, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, recently completed his sophomore campaign with the UMass Minutemen. Over the course of the season, he amassed 529 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns. Notably, his standout performance came against SEC powerhouse Georgia, where he accumulated 74 rushing yards and found the end zone once. Initially beginning his collegiate journey at Western Michigan, Hester contributed significantly during his freshman year, gaining 124 yards and scoring twice over seven appearances.

Hester's arrival is timely for Michigan as they look to fill gaps left by departed players. However, playing time is not assured given the presence of returning sophomore Micah Ka’apana, who showcased promising form during the spring game. The competition for spots within the backfield will be closely monitored heading into the fall, as the Wolverines aim to establish depth and versatility in this critical area.

As Michigan football moves forward, CJ Hester represents an exciting addition to a dynamic roster. His past accomplishments and adaptability highlight his potential contribution to the team’s success. While multiple talented backs vie for opportunities, Hester's inclusion strengthens the Wolverines' options, ensuring a robust challenge awaits them all in preparation for the upcoming season.
