This past weekend, the Michigan baseball team faced off against USC in their inaugural home Big Ten series of the season. After securing two out of three games against Illinois in the previous week, the Wolverines found themselves on the losing side for much of this series. Despite dropping the first two games, Michigan rebounded strongly in the third game to avoid a sweep with an impressive shutout victory.

In the opening game, the Wolverines encountered early difficulties as the Trojans surged ahead with a significant lead. David Lally Jr.'s six-inning pitching performance was overshadowed by USC's four-run burst in the third inning. Although Michigan attempted a late rally with key contributions from Colby Turner and Cole Caruso, it wasn't enough to overturn the deficit, leading to a loss.

The second game saw Michigan holding a promising lead thanks to Dylan Vigue's stellar start and RBI hits from Colby Turner and Mitch Voit. However, USC capitalized on an eighth-inning surge, scoring four crucial runs that shifted the momentum in their favor. The Wolverines managed to narrow the gap but fell short of tying the game, resulting in another defeat.

The final game showcased Michigan's offensive prowess as they dominated from the outset. Colby Turner continued his hot streak with multiple RBIs, while Mitch Voit contributed significantly with a three-run triple. Kurt Barr and Will Rogers combined for a flawless shutout, ensuring Michigan's decisive 11-0 win under the mercy rule after seven innings.

Looking forward, the Wolverines have a chance to regroup before their upcoming series at Purdue. Prior to that, they will host Western Michigan, providing an opportunity to build confidence against a struggling opponent. Fans can tune in to B1G+ for the Tuesday matchup at Ray Fisher Stadium.
