As the officers tried to pull over the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 99 and Olive Drive, the driver refused to yield, leading to a high-speed chase that eventually entered the Oildale area. During the pursuit, the police received information that the individuals in the stolen vehicle were also suspected of being involved in an armed robbery that the Bakersfield Police Department was investigating.
The suspects, described as four male individuals, abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Hopkins Avenue and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood. With the assistance of the Kern County Sheriff's Office, Bakersfield Police Department, and California Highway Patrol, officers were able to apprehend two of the suspects, while the other two managed to evade capture despite an extensive search of the area.
The second individual arrested was identified as 19-year-old Ezra Cartwright, also from Bakersfield. Cartwright was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Authorities also discovered that he had a felony warrant for his arrest for carrying a loaded firearm as a criminal street gang member.
Both suspects are believed to be affiliated with criminal street gangs, adding an additional layer of complexity to the case. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the McFarland Police Department.
The pursuit and arrests have raised concerns about the growing prevalence of criminal activities, particularly those involving stolen vehicles and armed robberies, in the region. Authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to combat such crimes and ensure the safety of the community.
As the investigation progresses, the public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or information that may aid the authorities in their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the area.
