The Mazda MX-5 Miata, a global roadster icon, has sold over 1.2 million units since its debut in 1989. To mark this significant milestone, Mazda is set to unveil the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition at Japan's largest auto customizing event, the Tokyo Auto Salon. This special edition will be available for purchase worldwide from February for one month or until all limited-edition units are sold. The model features unique artisan red paint and optional tan leather interiors, along with enhanced safety and performance features.

Distinctive Design and Customization Options

The 35th Anniversary Edition of the MX-5 showcases an exclusive Artisan Red exterior color, setting it apart from previous models. Inside, drivers can opt for a luxurious tan-colored Nappa leather interior. Additionally, Mazda offers a range of premium paint options, including Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue, and Machine Grey Metallic. These customization choices allow buyers to personalize their vehicles according to their preferences. The new edition also comes equipped with advanced Bilstein dampers, a front shock tower brace, and an induction sound enhancer, ensuring a sport-tuned driving experience.

Since its fourth-generation launch in 2016, Mazda has continuously refined the MX-5 through 'kaizen', focusing on improvements in steering, engine performance, transmission, suspension, and design elements. The latest iteration not only enhances the visual appeal but also introduces several safety features such as an Adaptive Front-lighting System, High Beam Control, and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Grand Touring models come with optional Mazda Radar Cruise Control, adding convenience and safety to the driving experience.

Enhanced Performance and Driving Experience

A key highlight of the 35th Anniversary Edition is the introduction of DSC-Track Mode, which embodies Mazda’s 'Jinbai Ittai' philosophy—meaning harmony between driver and vehicle. This Dynamic Stability Control technology lowers intervention thresholds and allows for controlled oversteer, providing enthusiasts with a thrilling yet safe driving experience. The MX-5 has been instrumental in sparking a global roadster boom, inspiring competitors like Mercedes SLK, BMW Z3, Audi TT, Porsche Boxster, and Fiat Barchetta.

Pricing for the new MX-5 starts at $29,330 for the base Sport 6MT Soft Top model, while the hard top Grand Touring 6MT RF costs $37,350 and the 6AT RF model is priced at $38,320. Under the hood, U.S. models feature a potent Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engine delivering 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The vehicle also includes Kinematic Posture Control and an Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, enhancing stability and steering precision during cornering maneuvers.
