Conquer the Reed Devil: Your Ultimate Guide to Victory!
Preparing for the Battle: Essential Pre-Fight Strategies
Before stepping into the Reedwind Valley arena, it is crucial to ensure you are adequately prepared. First, locate and activate the Abyss Cresset situated near the boss's fighting grounds. This provides a convenient fast-travel point, allowing for quick returns if a strategic retreat is necessary. Accumulate a substantial supply of cooked food, such as Modest Grilled Meat, and assign it to your consumables wheel for easy access during the intense battle. Furthermore, focus on refining your weapons and armor at the Smithy to enhance both offensive and defensive capabilities. Consider visiting the Contribution Shop in Hernand Castle or interacting with Rhett for better equipment options.
Optimizing Your Character: Skill Allocation and Gear Choices
A smart allocation of your Abyss Artifacts is paramount. Prioritize foundational skills that boost health, stamina, and spirit. Stamina, in particular, is invaluable for boss encounters, enabling sustained blocking to mitigate incoming damage. Equipping a sword and shield combination, such as the 'Sword of the Lord' acquired earlier, offers an effective balance of attack speed and stamina-efficient blocking. Don't forget to sharpen your weapons at a grindstone, like the one in Thinker's Meadow, for increased damage output. Additionally, acquiring 'Keen Senses Level 2' is highly recommended for its enhanced evasion ability, providing a significant advantage in dodging attacks.
Phase One Tactics: Engaging the Reed Devil
During the initial phase of the fight, focus on building the Reed Devil's stun meter. The 'Force Palm' skill, especially its three-hit variant at Level 3, is highly effective for this purpose. When the boss is at a distance, utilize 'Focus' to replenish your spirit. Once the yellow stun meter is full, you'll have an opportunity to perform a finisher. While the window for this is generous, you can land a few extra hits before executing the finisher by pressing the left and right mouse buttons (or RB and RT on a controller).
Maintaining Distance and Dodging Attacks
The Reed Devil excels in close-quarters combat, making it challenging to engage directly. It's often more advantageous to maintain a moderate distance, blocking its rapid attacks while looking for openings to strike. After the boss completes its attack combinations and sheathes its sword, it presents a prime opportunity to counter-attack. You can also utilize running kicks by pressing 'F' (or 'Y' on a controller) when it circles you, or deliver well-timed 'Force Palm' strikes. Remember to evade all red-flashing attacks, including the 'Swift Stab' in the first phase and the series of red blades in the second phase, as these are typically unblockable and deal significant damage.
Phase Two: Overcoming Clones and Totems
The transition between the first and second phases introduces a critical challenge: the summoning of clones and totems. The key to efficiently managing this phase is the 'Turning Slash' ability. This skill allows you to destroy the totems in a single powerful blow, even while charging. Simply sprint towards a totem, hold the left and right mouse buttons (or RB and RT on a controller) to charge 'Turning Slash,' and then unleash the attack. While charging, your character gains increased resistance to flinching, making it a reliable method. Throughout this segment, prioritize continuous movement and sprinting to avoid the relentless attacks from the Reed Devil's clones until all totems are dismantled.
