Marvel's 2028 Cinematic Slate: Ghost Rider, X-Men, and Black Panther 3 Details Emerge

Marvel Studios has started to lift the veil on its cinematic plans for 2028, offering fans a clearer picture of the landscape post-“Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” These announcements signal a significant shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting the stage for new heroes and narratives.

The initial reveal last month confirmed Ryan Gosling's casting as Ghost Rider in a standalone film slated for 2028. Further details this week pinpointed its release to July 28, 2028, securing a prime late-July slot historically favorable for major Marvel blockbusters. This positions “Ghost Rider” as the second MCU film to launch after the universe-altering events of “Avengers: Secret Wars” in December 2027.

Before Ghost Rider takes the screen, the much-anticipated X-Men reboot will kick off Marvel's 2028 calendar on May 5. Recent updates from the D23 fan event confirmed several key mutant castings, including Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Inde Navarette as Rogue. Shawn Levy, known for his work on "Deadpool & Wolverine" and Gosling's "Star Wars: Starfighter," is set to direct "Ghost Rider." While the specific incarnation of Ghost Rider Gosling will portray remains under wraps, the character has a rich history in Marvel Comics, with Johnny Blaze being a prominent figure, previously depicted by Nic Cage. The Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, played by Gabriel Luna, has also made an appearance in the "Agents of SHIELD" TV series, technically integrating the character into the MCU.

The final Marvel Studios film for 2028, at least for now, will be "Black Panther 3," arriving on December 15. This installment is expected to feature David Jonsson as the grown-up son of T'Challa, a character briefly introduced at the conclusion of "Black Panther 2." Returning fan favorites Letitia Wright as Shuri and Winston Duke as M'Baku are also anticipated to appear, with both characters set to play roles in the upcoming "Doomsday." Marvel has also penciled in an untitled film for November 9, 2029, leaving fans to speculate on potential projects like a Nova movie or a "Shang-Chi" sequel, indicating a continued expansion of the universe beyond these confirmed titles.

The unveiled 2028 lineup, featuring the X-Men's grand re-entry, Ghost Rider's solo debut, and the continuation of the Black Panther saga, marks a pivotal moment for the MCU. These films are poised to introduce fresh storylines and characters while building upon the foundations laid by the preceding Avengers epics, promising an exciting and transformative era for Marvel fans.
