One of Florida's top unsigned senior athletes, Madrid Tucker, has narrowed his college choices to two prestigious institutions: the University of North Carolina and West Virginia University. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete from Fort Myers has received numerous Division I football offers but ultimately decided on these two schools before the February 5 signing deadline. Despite not being ranked by major recruiting services, Tucker's impact in Southwest Florida is undeniable. Over his high school career, he excelled in multiple sports, amassing significant achievements in football, basketball, and track & field. His decision was influenced by both universities' commitment to supporting his development as a dual-sport athlete in football and baseball.

Tucker's versatility on the field made him an invaluable asset for Fort Myers High School. During his senior year, he demonstrated exceptional skills across various positions. Offensively, he contributed significantly with 36 receptions for 686 yards and eight touchdowns, while also rushing for 383 yards and five scores. Defensively, he secured two interceptions, forced two fumbles, and broke up six passes. Additionally, Tucker showcased his talents in special teams, accumulating 298 yards. Over four years, he totaled 2,644 offensive yards, 42 touchdowns, 104 tackles, and six interceptions. His prowess extended beyond football, earning accolades in basketball and track & field.

Both North Carolina and West Virginia stood out to Tucker due to their seamless approach and strong support for his dual-sport aspirations. At UNC, football head coach Bill Belichick and baseball head coach Scott Forbes played a pivotal role in his decision. Their proven track record of building successful programs and fostering a welcoming environment left a lasting impression on Tucker. “Coach Belichick and Coach Forbes made me feel welcome from the start,” Tucker remarked. “Their culture and genuine support for my goals were key factors.”

West Virginia, on the other hand, impressed Tucker with its unified recruitment strategy led by football head coach Rich Rodriguez and baseball head coach Steve Sabins. The involvement of former North Fort Myers legend Noel Devine further strengthened West Virginia's appeal. “Coach Rodriguez and Coach Sabins’ vision resonated with me, and having someone from my city involved made it even more meaningful,” Tucker explained. The immediate response and genuine interest from both coaches left a lasting impact on him.

Tucker's decision underscores the rarity of finding a program willing to support dual-sport athletes at the collegiate level. Grateful for the opportunities presented by both schools, Tucker emphasized the importance of feeling valued and supported in pursuing his athletic ambitions.
