MachineGames' highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to bring back the excitement and sense of adventure from the classic film series. With a different lead actor taking on the iconic role, this game is generating a lot of buzz. Troy Baker, the renowned voice-over and performance actor, has stepped into the shoes of Indiana Jones and is impressing with his performance. However, the road to casting was not an easy one.

Initial Doubts and the Casting Process

Baker initially passed on the role of Indiana Jones because he was scared he wouldn't be able to do it justice. His insecurities were evident, but voice acting director Tom Keegan saw past them and encouraged him to give it a try. Over the last decade, Baker has become a household name in the video game industry with roles in popular games like The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Bioshock. But taking on the role of Indiana Jones was a different challenge altogether."We saw over 1000 people for this role, and I was in competition with not only those talented individuals but also with myself," Baker said. "The goal wasn't to make a perfect impression but to help the game feel authentic. And as the process went on, I was slowly won over."After a Zoom call with the MachineGames team, including Tom Keegan and Todd Howard, Baker went from hoping to get the job to really wanting it. He was excited to be a part of this ambitious project.

The Challenges of Filling Big Shoes

Despite some initial doubts, Baker's performance in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is holding up well. However, during the early casting, Todd Howard, the lead producer and head of Bethesda Game Studios, was not initially enthusiastic about Baker. "My favorite part of that story is how Todd Howard rolled his eyes when they first brought my name to him," Baker said. But thankfully, Baker won Howard over, and the game is now just weeks away from release.Indiana Jones and the Great Circle looks like a direct sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark and is set to be the most ambitious and large-scale game focused on the explorer yet.
