An engaging evening of community engagement took place recently in Shreveport, where a local non-profit organization orchestrated an event aimed at raising funds to support children in crisis. The gathering brought together residents for a night filled with delightful culinary experiences and entertainment. Hosted by Geaux 4 Kids in collaboration with Live! Casino & Hotel, the event took place at the Krewe of Gemini Den on January 16. Attendees enjoyed an array of delectable King Cakes and cocktails, all while supporting a noble cause.

The founder and executive director of Geaux 4 Kids, K.C. Kilpatrick Baird, highlighted the significance of such events in fostering community spirit and aiding those in need. Established in 2013, this grassroots initiative has been dedicated to providing essential supplies to children entering foster care. Over the years, Geaux 4 Kids has not only supplied over 19,000 emergency kits but also invested $3 million directly into assisting children facing crises. Baird emphasized the importance of community support, expressing gratitude for the generosity that enables the organization to continue its mission.

Through initiatives like the "Geaux Bags," "Geaux Adopt," and "Just Be-Clause" programs, Geaux 4 Kids aims to ensure that no child faces the challenges of displacement alone. The organization's efforts have expanded beyond Louisiana, reaching into Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma as of 2024. Such endeavors underscore the power of collective action and highlight how communities can come together to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children. By supporting these fundraising activities, individuals contribute to building a safer and more compassionate world for future generations.
