Tulsa, Oklahoma is buzzing with excitement as a local boxing gym has made a grand comeback just in time for the holidays. Situated near 25th Street and Memorial Drive, this gym has three different locations, each equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. HAC Athletics has been an integral part of the Tulsa community for four years, but had to temporarily close due to worn-out equipment. However, with the generous support of sponsors who gifted them with new gear, they are now able to welcome back their members and the community.
Providing a Safe Space and Hope
Scotty Kramer, one of the co-owners of HAC Athletics, emphasizes their commitment to creating a central hub for charity, especially for at-risk and troubled youth. "We want this to be a place where these young individuals can find solace and a sense of belonging," Kramer says. Growing up in similar circumstances without access to certain opportunities, he and his business partner Sam have now taken on the responsibility of giving back to the community. They have established a charity called the Hope and Courage Promise, which specifically serves at-risk youth within Tulsa. This initiative is a testament to their belief in the power of boxing and other activities to transform lives. "It's a humbling experience to see our efforts translate into something meaningful for these kids," Kramer adds.Boxing as a Tool for Growth
Boxing at HAC Athletics is not just about physical training; it's about personal development. As young as seven and as old as 60, people from all walks of life flock to the gym. Pro-fighter Elijah Pigg believes that boxing provides a positive outlet for young fighters coming from challenging backgrounds. "A lot of these kids don't have a good support system at home, but here at HAC, they find that support and a sense of purpose," he says. The gym offers not only boxing but also weight-lifting, dance, and a safe space for individuals to express themselves. Amber Inthasone, a mom with five kids, is grateful for the impact HAC has had on her children. "Sam started from his garage and has built a community where kids can release their frustration and anger. They have someone to look up to here," she says.Building a Strong Community
Kramer's social media following and the brick-and-mortar presence of the gym have allowed them to build a strong community. "We want to create a sense of unity among our members and the wider Tulsa community. Boxing brings people together, and we want to foster that sense of togetherness," he explains. With the recent grand reopening, there is a renewed sense of excitement in the air. Inthasone is excited about what this means for the youth. "It provides more mentorship opportunities for the younger ones. The trainers are excellent at communicating and helping them learn good coping skills. It's truly a remarkable place," she says.To learn more about HAC Athletics and their mission, click here.
