The renowned six-time Le Mans winner, Jacky Ickx, is set to revisit Australia's iconic Mount Panorama circuit this year. At 80 years old, Ickx will drive demonstration laps in the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept car before the Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race from January 31 to February 2. This marks the first time the Genesis concept has taken to any racetrack since its debut at the Gran Turismo World Series Finals in Spain in 2023. Additionally, Genesis plans to expand its racing presence with entries in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA in the coming years.

A Legend Revisits Bathurst

Jacky Ickx, an automotive icon, will return to the Mount Panorama circuit for the first time since his triumphant win in the 1977 Bathurst 1000. Partnered with local legend Allan Moffatt, Ickx secured a memorable Ford 1-2 finish in an XC Falcon. Now, nearly half a century later, he will pilot the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept car, showcasing its capabilities on the challenging 6.2km track. The event highlights Ickx's enduring admiration for Bathurst's unique atmosphere and passionate fans.

In 1977, Ickx teamed up with Allan Moffatt to lead a historic Ford victory at Bathurst. His return underscores not only his illustrious career but also the special connection he forged with the Australian racing community. Ickx's enthusiasm for Bathurst stems from the fervor of its spectators, making it one of the world's premier motor racing venues. This visit promises to be a nostalgic yet thrilling experience for both Ickx and the audience.

Genesis Expands Racing Presence

Beyond Ickx's demonstration, Genesis is expanding its footprint in motorsports. The brand will introduce the four-seat GV60 Magma concept, which triumphed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and will enter production this year. The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta's appearance at Bathurst represents its inaugural laps on any racetrack, following its virtual debut in the Gran Turismo game in January 2024.

Genesis is gradually enhancing its racing endeavors. It plans to debut in the top-tier World Endurance Championship with triple Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer in 2026, followed by an entry into IMSA in 2027. The brand's strategic moves aim to solidify its position in high-performance automotive events. The GV60 Magma concept's participation at Bathurst further demonstrates Genesis's commitment to innovation and performance, blending cutting-edge design with competitive spirit.
