In 1968, he married Frances Reed, and together they welcomed two children into the world. Later, he had another child with Barbara Weeden, further expanding his family circle.

He began his career working for Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River, Illinois, where he spent many years honing his skills and contributing to the company's success. As time progressed, Charles transitioned to a new role at IBM, located at Boeing in St. Louis, Missouri. His work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him respect in both his personal and professional spheres. Outside of work, Charles found joy in various hobbies, particularly motorcycling. He was an active member of a motorcycle club, which allowed him to connect with like-minded individuals and pursue his passion for adventure. Additionally, he enjoyed the strategic game of pool, often engaging in friendly matches that brought him pleasure and camaraderie.

In the later years of his life, Charles continued to enrich the lives of those around him. He remarried twice, first to Miranda Owens in 1995 and then to Margarita Moore in 2004, adding new dimensions to his relationships. Charles was deeply loved by his family, including his daughter Rosalyn Collins, son Michael Bonds, and seven grandchildren. His legacy also extended to four great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values and love he instilled in them. Charles's passing on January 28, 2025, marked the end of a rich and fulfilling life, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. His family plans to honor his memory with a visitation and service at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, followed by burial at Upper Alton Cemetery.
