Neighborhood Focus and Community Meeting

Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson recognized the urgency of the situation and organized a community meeting at the Paradise Community Center. As he stated, "I’m guessing it’s every bit as big as it has been in the past, but it now has our attention as a high priority. And I think we’re going to get to the bottom of it." This meeting provided a platform for residents and officials to come together and discuss possible solutions.

Steven Vaden, a long-time resident who has been advocating for action since 2015, expressed his satisfaction with the meeting. He said, "I’m happy the meeting took place. Liked what I heard. Some of the solutions seem reasonable. I just want the budgets. You want to see action? I do. At the end of the day, that’s what I want to see." His dedication and perseverance in fighting for change have been an inspiration to many.

Valley-Wide Problem and Metro's RAID Team

The issue of street racing is not limited to a single neighborhood; it is a valley-wide problem that affects the entire community. Metro's RAID team, which stands for Racing Apprehension and Intervention Detail, has been actively working to combat this issue. This year, they have made 161 arrests and issued 143 citations for reckless driving. Although these numbers are lower than last year, the team remains committed to their mission.

Jose Hernandez from Metro highlighted the challenges they face, stating, "It’s such a mobile behavior. They can be at one intersection for a matter of minutes. By the time our officers arrive, they’ve switched to a different location." This highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to address the problem.

Street Design Changes and Resident Reporting

Clark County is considering making changes to street design to help prevent street racing. These changes are aimed at making it more difficult for racers to find suitable locations and to increase the visibility of police officers. Officials also urge residents to report any street racing activity immediately and to provide license plate numbers if possible. This information can be crucial in apprehending reckless drivers and bringing them to justice.

By working together, residents, police, and county officials can make a significant impact in curbing street racing and ensuring the safety of the community. Las Vegas is committed to taking proactive measures to address this issue and create a safer environment for everyone.
