Kennesaw State University's pioneering Master of Science in Digital Financial Technologies program is equipping students with the cutting-edge skills needed to thrive in Atlanta's rapidly expanding fintech industry. As Georgia's first graduate-level fintech degree, the online program is opening doors for professionals seeking to advance their careers in the dynamic world of digital payments and financial technology.

Transforming Careers and Driving Innovation in Finance

Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Practical Impact

Graduates of Kennesaw State's MS-Fintech program are already making waves in Atlanta's fintech ecosystem. Devendar Bukya, a recent alumnus, has seen firsthand how the program's focus on blockchain, AI, and cybersecurity has enhanced his work as an SAP Finance, Treasury, and Controlling Consultant. "The skills I gained have allowed me to implement more secure and efficient financial processes within SAP environments," Bukya explains. "This program positioned me at the forefront of digital transformation in finance."Another standout graduate, Didier Lopez, leveraged the program's curriculum to transition into a new career in fintech. After working as an ophthalmology technician for seven years, Lopez was drawn to the industry's potential and discovered Kennesaw State's MS-Fintech program. "I looked into different industries and came across fintech. I applied for the program and started in July 2022," he says. Since completing the degree, Lopez has landed an internship as a technical product manager at Acuity Brands, where he is spearheading finance and accounting technology projects. "Every interview I had for product management, people were impressed with this degree," he notes. "They mentioned how people in the industry learn fintech on the job, but we're learning the technology behind it, which puts us ahead of the game."

Fostering a Vibrant Alumni Network and Mentorship Program

In addition to his professional achievements, Lopez is giving back to the KSU community by starting an alumni mentorship program for graduates of the fintech degree. "I wanted to create a space for alumni to guide new students through the program and offer support as they navigate their careers in fintech," he explains. This initiative reflects the program's commitment to building a strong, collaborative network of fintech professionals.

Strategically Positioned in Atlanta's Fintech Hub

Kennesaw State's MS-Fintech program is strategically positioned to capitalize on Atlanta's status as a major hub for financial transactions. "Atlanta is a large hub for financial transactions," says Nick Suppiah, interim director of KSU's fintech programs. "This gives our students access to industry leaders and major institutions they wouldn't have had in another area." Suppiah is focused on expanding the program's reach further by connecting with more industry players, including recently launching an advisory board of fintech leaders.

Experiential Learning and Industry Partnerships

Kennesaw State's MS-Fintech program places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, thanks to partnerships with top-tier financial companies like Truist and FIS Global. These collaborations allow students to work on projects solving real-world challenges while gaining hands-on experience with the technologies driving the future of finance. "The program's focus on emerging technologies and real-world problem-solving ensures that graduates are not just well-informed but also adaptable and capable of leading in the rapidly evolving digital finance landscape," Bukya observes. As Kennesaw State's MS-Fintech program continues to grow and evolve, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of finance through its innovative curriculum, industry partnerships, and a thriving network of alumni who are driving innovation and transformation in Atlanta's booming fintech sector.
