The Kingfisher Lady Jackets' up-and-down journey through the District 4A-1 standings took a turn for the worse last week. With a 1-2 record, the team suffered defeats against district rivals Weatherford and Bethany, dropping their overall record to 17-5 and their district record to 4-4.

Bethany Bats Stay Hot, Kingfisher Struggles with Errors

The Lady Jackets' struggles began on Thursday, as they fell 10-3 to Bethany. The Lady Bronchos, who had already swept the season series, continued their hot hitting, scoring nine runs in the middle three innings. Jadyn Barger, Ireland Riley, and Madison Bibbs, the top three batters in Bethany's lineup, combined for seven hits and six RBIs.Kingfisher's defense was a significant factor in the loss, as they committed a season-high eight errors, leading to seven unearned runs off the right arm of Kinlee East, who pitched all seven innings for the Lady Jackets. Despite the defensive woes, East struck out two and walked three, while giving up 11 hits.

Kingfisher Shows Signs of Life, but Bethany Pulls Away

The Lady Jackets did show some fight, trimming Bethany's lead to one run in the fourth inning. Kinlee East was hit by a pitch and scored on Addison Johnson's RBI double, and Lily Voth hit her first home run of the season to pull Kingfisher within a run. However, Bethany responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away.

Kingfisher's Offense Struggles Against Bethany's Pitching

Offensively, Kingfisher managed eight hits, with Addison Johnson the only Lady Jacket to record multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The team's struggles against Bethany's pitching were evident, as they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities to tie or take the lead.

Kingfisher Starts Week with a Win, but Stumbles Against Weatherford

The week started on a positive note, as Kingfisher defeated Chisholm 9-1 in a non-district contest. Kendall Farrar's third home run of the season sparked a four-run third inning, and the Lady Jackets produced 12 hits in the game, with several players contributing to the offensive effort.However, the momentum was short-lived, as Kingfisher fell 4-2 to Weatherford on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles, seeking revenge for their earlier loss to Kingfisher, took the lead in the fourth inning and held on, despite the Lady Jackets' efforts to rally. Lily Voth pitched well, but the defense struggled, committing multiple errors that led to unearned runs.

Kingfisher Drops to Fifth in District Standings

The losses to Weatherford and Bethany have had a significant impact on Kingfisher's district standings. After sitting as high as second in the district last week, the Lady Jackets have now dropped to fifth, behind Weatherford, Elk City, Bethany, and Woodward. With two crucial district games against Woodward still to come, Kingfisher will need to regroup and find a way to regain their footing in the race for a playoff spot.
