Transforming Passion into Masterpieces: Deaunte Thomas' Creative Journey

Embracing His Artistic Roots

Deaunte Thomas' artistic journey began at a young age, thanks to the encouragement of his grandmother. "She used to hand me the paper and notebook," he recalls, reflecting on the early days that sparked his creative spark. Growing up in the 816 area, Thomas honed his skills, eventually transitioning to live painting five years ago. His dream of taking his art to the professional sports arena was always on his mind, and he was determined to make it a reality.

Connecting with the Community

Thomas' connections and determination have opened doors for him in the Kansas City sports scene. He's had the opportunity to paint live portraits of eight KC Current players and two Royals players, all within their respective stadiums. While he didn't have the chance to gift the paintings to the Royals players, he made sure to personally meet and present the pieces to the KC Current athletes. "Everybody that you want to meet in Kansas City is two arm's length away," Thomas says, highlighting the close-knit nature of the community.

Bringing Chiefs' Iconic Plays to Life

This football season, Thomas has reached the pinnacle of his artistic journey, setting his sights on Arrowhead Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Chiefs. "It didn't even seem like it was real," he says, reflecting on the surreal experience of painting live at the iconic venue. Thomas set aside his sibling rivalry, as his brother was a Chiefs fan, and he found himself drawn to the team's impact on the community.

Painting Isiah Pacheco: A Meaningful Collaboration

During the Chiefs' first home game, Thomas painted a portrait of running back Isiah Pacheco on canvas, with his mother's recommendation. "She's pretty, you know, raves about Pacheco," Thomas shares, adding that his mother hasn't stopped calling him about it, eager to see who he'll paint next. Thomas had the opportunity to gift the original piece to Pacheco, who was surprised to see someone live-painting at a game. "He was surprised that people could live paint at a game too, or that I live painted this at the game, which, you know some people will be surprised what you can do, and sometimes you'll surprise yourself how you know you can be comfortable while being uncomfortable," Thomas reflects.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Thomas' artistic endeavors go beyond showcasing his talent; they're also a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that anything is possible. "That same grit and grind that the Chiefs encompass on the, you know, the gridiron, we encompass, that within our communities," he says, drawing a parallel between the team's determination and the resilience of the local community. By sharing his journey, Thomas hopes to inspire youth and others to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles.

Sharing the Iconic Moments with Fans

As Thomas continues to paint live at Arrowhead Stadium, he aims to share these iconic moments with Chiefs fans. He plans to sell his art, allowing fellow fans to own a piece of the team's history.
