Trackhouse Racing team owner Justin Marks recently made a significant statement about the team's Project91 program. After a brief absence during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series campaign, Marks hinted at the program's potential return.
Project91: A Global Racing Phenomenon
The Project91 program made its debut at Watkins Glen International in 2022, quickly capturing the attention of the racing world. It has fielded entries for some of the most renowned drivers, such as 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and three-time Supercars champion Shane Van Gisbergen.Raikkonen's participation in two NASCAR Cup Series events as part of the program was notable. His best finish came at Circuit of The Americas in 2023, securing a 29th-place position. On the other hand, Van Gisbergen's Cup Series debut in the inaugural Chicago Street Race was a game-changer. His victory in the Summer of 2023 catapulted him into a full-time NASCAR National Series career. In 2025, he will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse. The Impact of Van Gisbergen's Victory
Van Gisbergen's win had a profound impact on the NASCAR Cup Series. It brought international flair to the series and opened up new opportunities for both the driver and the team. Since its debut in 2022 and especially after Van Gisbergen's triumph in 2023, several other teams have followed suit, bringing in international talent. Richard Childress Racing with Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown, 23XI Racing with Juan Pablo Montoya and Kamui Kobayashi, and RFK Racing with Cameron Waters have all added to the global flavor of the NASCAR Cup Series. The Future of Project91
Marks explained that the reason Project91 didn't see the race track this year was due to the team's focus on preparing a third car for Shane Van Gisbergen and helping at Kaulig. However, now that the team is focused on its three cars full-time next year, Project91 can make a comeback. Marks expects to see it sooner rather than later. This news has excited the racing community, as Project91 has the potential to bring even more excitement and international talent to the NASCAR Cup Series.
