Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin is now in the midst of his fifth season at the helm of the program. This marks a personal record for him. After stints at Tennessee for one year, Southern Cal for almost four years, Florida Atlantic for three years, and an NFL and assistant coaching job in between, Kiffin has officially spent more time coaching at Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3 SEC) than at any other program.

Before the Egg Bowl

Before Ole Miss' Egg Bowl game against Mississippi State (2-9, 0-7) on Friday, Kiffin was asked about his current job and if he considered it an elite position within the SEC. He responded with a firm "I do, for me." He went on to say, "I've been here going on five years. This has become a place I have really grown into. I've developed so many relationships. And my father's situation, reflecting on that, I never thought he would have passed here in Oxford, Mississippi."

The Influence of His Father

Kiffin's father, Monte, was a highly respected football coach and had a significant influence on him. Monte Kiffin, who passed away in July at 84, coached at Ole Miss as a defensive analyst under his son. This experience gave Kiffin a deep appreciation for the people around here. As analyst Joe Judge and he discussed this week, they realized that Mississippi is a place that is often misunderstood until one actually lives here. Once you do, you begin to understand its uniqueness, making it a truly special place for Kiffin. He firmly believes that they can achieve success here.

Building Relationships and the Future

During his time at Ole Miss, Kiffin has not only focused on the on-field performance but also on building strong relationships. These relationships have played a crucial role in the team's development. He has worked closely with his players, staff, and the local community. His leadership and coaching style have earned the respect of many. Looking ahead, Kiffin is determined to continue leading the team and achieving more success. He believes that with the right approach and the support of the team and community, they can make Ole Miss a force to be reckoned with in the SEC.
