As a middle school student, Makellah was exposed to the world of STEM through her classes at Holyoke High School Dean Tech Campus. It was during this time that she first noticed the electrical shop and the students within it. The sight of them working on electrical tasks was both fascinating and inspiring. It opened her eyes to the possibilities that lay ahead in the field of electricity.
She began to think about how she could pursue a career in this area. The hands-on nature of the work and the practical skills being developed by the students in the electrical shop intrigued her. This initial inspiration would lay the foundation for her future endeavors.
Once Makellah entered the vocational school's electrical shop, she was immersed in a whole new world. Climbing up to the ceiling to fix lights was not an easy task, but it was one that she took on with enthusiasm. She watched as the experienced electricians guided and taught the students, sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Through this experience, she learned about the different tools and equipment used in electrical work. She also gained a deeper understanding of electrical circuits and how they function. The practical aspect of the shop allowed her to apply what she had learned in theory and see the results firsthand.
Looking ahead, Makellah has big dreams and aspirations in the field of electricity. She sees herself becoming a skilled electrician, following in the footsteps of her grandfather. The time she has spent in the electrical shop has given her the confidence and determination to pursue this career.
