Jamesville-DeWitt's Annual Charity Soccer Game: A Heartwarming Tradition Honoring a Beloved Community Member

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District is gearing up to host its 15th annual Sally A. Lock/Coaches Vs. Cancer Charity Soccer Game on Saturday, October 5. This annual event, which has been a fixture in the community since 2010, holds a special significance as it pays tribute to Sally Lock, the sister of the junior varsity boys soccer team head coach, Paul Krause, who bravely battled ovarian cancer.

Uniting the Community Through the Power of Sports and Compassion

A Legacy of Resilience and Generosity

The Sally A. Lock/Coaches Vs. Cancer Charity Soccer Game has become a cherished tradition in the Jamesville-DeWitt community, serving as a poignant reminder of the power of unity and compassion in the face of adversity. When Sally Lock was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006, her brother, Paul Krause, the junior varsity boys soccer team head coach, was determined to find a way to honor her memory and support the fight against this devastating disease. In 2010, Krause organized the first annual charity soccer game, which has since become a beloved annual event.

A Celebration of Community Spirit

The charity soccer game has grown in both scale and significance over the years, attracting a dedicated following of supporters from the Jamesville-DeWitt community and beyond. This year, the event will feature a matchup between the Jamesville-DeWitt and Fulton teams, with the boys junior varsity game kicking off at 1 p.m. and the boys varsity game following at 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear the special event shirts that the soccer teams have been selling to raise additional funds for the cause.

A Tradition of Giving Back

The Sally A. Lock/Coaches Vs. Cancer Charity Soccer Game is more than just a sporting event; it is a testament to the community's commitment to supporting those affected by cancer. In addition to the soccer matches, the event will feature gift basket raffles, with tickets priced at $2 each, $10 for 6 tickets, and $25 for 15 tickets. Last year, the event raised a record-breaking $11,400 for the American Cancer Society and Coaches Vs. Cancer, and in 2020, it was named the 2020 New York State Soccer Event of the Year, further solidifying its reputation as a premier fundraising initiative.

A Lasting Impact on the Community

The Sally A. Lock/Coaches Vs. Cancer Charity Soccer Game is more than just a one-day event; it is a reflection of the Jamesville-DeWitt community's unwavering dedication to supporting those affected by cancer. Through this annual tradition, the district has not only honored the memory of Sally Lock but has also inspired countless individuals to join the fight against this devastating disease. As the 15th edition of the event approaches, the community eagerly anticipates another opportunity to come together, celebrate the power of sports, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
