Hoosiers Soar to 4-0 with Dominant Win Over Charlotte

Indiana football continued its impressive start to the season, cruising to a 52-14 victory over Charlotte on Saturday. The Hoosiers' offense once again proved unstoppable, setting a program record for most points scored in a four-game stretch. Meanwhile, the defense, despite a few hiccups, stood tall and shut down the 49ers' comeback efforts.

Hoosiers Maintain Momentum, Surge to 4-0 Start

Kurtis Rourke Shines, Offense Clicks on All Cylinders

Quarterback Kurtis Rourke picked up right where he left off, delivering another stellar performance for the Hoosiers. The junior signal-caller carved up Charlotte's secondary, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns on an efficient 16-of-20 passing. Rourke showcased his poise and decision-making, making several key plays that won't show up in the box score, such as drawing a crucial pass interference penalty to set up a touchdown.Rourke's ability to make plays with both his arm and his legs was on full display. He connected on a pair of deep balls to Myles Price, including a 39-yard strike, and also scampered for a 12-yard touchdown run. The Hoosiers' offense continued to hum, setting a program record for most points scored in a four-game stretch.

Run Defense Struggles, but Hoosiers Overcome

One area of concern for Indiana was its run defense, which uncharacteristically struggled against the 49ers. Charlotte's rushing attack, which had been anemic through the first three games, found new life on Saturday. The 49ers averaged 5.1 yards per carry in the first half, including a 33-yard end-around that was the longest run the Hoosiers had allowed all season. This success on the ground allowed Charlotte to convert on 5 of 8 third-down attempts in the first half, keeping the game close at 17-14 midway through the second quarter. However, the Hoosiers' defense tightened up in the second half, and the offense continued to pour on the points, ultimately securing a comfortable victory.

Depth Shines as Reserves Make an Impact

While the starters continued to lead the way, Indiana's depth was on full display against Charlotte. Running back Kaelon Black, who has taken a backseat to the success of Justice Ellison and Ty Son Lawton, made the most of his opportunities, rushing for 50 yards and a touchdown.Tight end Sam West also stepped up, hauling in a 37-yard catch to set up a touchdown drive. With starting tight end James Bomba sidelined due to injury, West's performance showcased the Hoosiers' ability to plug in capable replacements. On the defensive side, Jamari Sharpe, filling in for the suspended D'Angelo Ponds, made his presence felt with a pair of crucial pass breakups on third down. The Hoosiers' depth proved to be a valuable asset, as they were able to withstand the absence of key players and still dominate their opponent. As Indiana continues its undefeated start to the season, the Hoosiers' ability to rely on their depth and get contributions from all corners of the roster will be crucial in maintaining their momentum and achieving their lofty goals.
