With a flurry of rumors circulating, neither developer NetherRealm Studios nor publisher Warner Bros. Games has offered any official clarification. However, Ed Boon, the Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat, responded to a fan who wrote on Bluesky, expressing "Hope everybody is okay with all those leaks." Boon's ambiguous reply, "I appreciate the kind words," neither confirmed nor denied anything.

The Disappointing DLC Performance

When the DLC was announced in July, Boon had promised that fans would be excited by the second year of content, which would continue the cinematic story, introduce more fighters, and bring back popular game features. But at present, this seems less likely as the expansion has sold poorly and received mostly negative reviews. On Steam, only 29% of the 95 reviews were positive.
