Two remarkable events are set to captivate audiences this semester, thanks to the generous backing of the Kerry Kennedy Aspiring Playwright Endowment. This initiative has been instrumental in fostering creativity and providing a platform for emerging artists. On April 11, the School of Literary and Performing Arts will present a reading of Kerry Kennedy's play, "The Last Beautiful Words," at UA Little Rock Downtown. The event serves as a testament to the enduring partnership between the school and UA Little Rock Downtown.

A week after the play reading, students take center stage with their collaborative capstone project, "Vesitiga: Fragments of Us." Scheduled for April 17-19, this performance showcases the talents of six senior and junior students from the School of Literary and Performing Arts. Guided by Jimmy Maize, a key figure in the Tectonic Theater Project, the students have embraced an innovative theatrical technique known as 'Moment Work.' This method encourages them to explore themes that resonate deeply with their personal experiences and artistic visions. The residency program at UA Little Rock has played a pivotal role in nurturing this creative endeavor.

The continued growth of the Kerry Kennedy Aspiring Playwright Endowment ensures that such transformative projects remain a cornerstone of the school's curriculum. Established in 2006, the endowment has supported numerous initiatives, including residencies, mentorship programs, and annual events like the Fringe Festival of New Student Work. A recent donation of $50,000 from Dr. Keith Kennedy underscores the family's commitment to preserving Kerry Kennedy's legacy. Producing artistic director Stacy Pendergraft highlights the profound impact of the endowment on empowering student voices and shaping the school’s mission. These performances exemplify the power of collaboration and innovation, inviting the community to witness the next generation of playwrights and performers in action.
