Hyundai's performance division, N, recently unveiled ambitious plans at its CEO Investor Day, aiming to substantially broaden its model range and market presence by the end of the decade. The brand intends to grow its current offering of five N models to over seven, projecting an impressive fivefold increase in annual sales, from 20,000 units in 2025 to 100,000 by 2030.
A key element of this expansion is the development of a new front-engined, rear-wheel-drive vehicle, equipped with all-wheel-drive support. While specific details regarding its powertrain remain undisclosed, there's speculation it will feature a conventional internal combustion engine, potentially a plug-in hybrid system, given the current dominance of gas engines in the high-performance sector. This particular model is anticipated to offer the widest market coverage, targeting 22 percent. Furthermore, Hyundai N is exploring the introduction of a new front-wheel-drive crossover, possibly a reimagined Kona N, to further enhance its market reach.
Beyond these immediate plans, Hyundai N is actively investigating various "whitespace" product opportunities, including an entry-level front-engined car with both rear- and all-wheel-drive options, and a compact electric vehicle, potentially an Ioniq 3 N. For the longer term, there's a vision for three additional high-end vehicles: a premium SUV, a premium electric vehicle, and a luxury sports GT. These prospective models, if approved, are not expected to launch until the next decade, with the grand tourer generating particular interest as a distinctive Hyundai N offering rather than a Genesis variant.
Hyundai N's forward-looking strategy signals a clear commitment to establishing itself as a major force in the high-performance automotive market. By introducing a diverse range of new models, including a highly anticipated rear-wheel-drive car, and expanding its global availability, Hyundai N is poised for significant growth and increased competitiveness against established performance brands. This proactive approach underscores the brand's dedication to innovation and meeting the evolving demands of automotive enthusiasts, ensuring an exciting future for performance driving.
