An inspiring initiative is set to bring joy, healing, and camaraderie to young individuals affected by cancer. The Cancer Support Community Iowa & NW Illinois, previously known as Gilda’s Club Quad Cities, is thrilled to unveil its upcoming Camp Hope 2025. This remarkable event offers a unique opportunity for children and teens entering grades four through nine to engage in an unforgettable experience. Scheduled from June 15 to June 20 at Camp Shalom Christian Camp in Maquoketa, this camp promises to be a life-changing adventure.
Camp Hope, originally named Camp Genesis, focuses on creating a nurturing atmosphere where participants can enjoy traditional camp activities while connecting with others who understand their challenges. Activities such as ziplining, rock climbing, swimming, archery, canoeing, and arts and crafts provide thrilling experiences that encourage personal growth and friendship-building. Additionally, under the guidance of professional staff, campers participate in group discussions where they can express their feelings and learn from shared experiences. A distinctive aspect of this program includes a field trip to the MercyOne Genesis Davenport Cancer Center, enabling participants to gain insight into cancer diagnosis and treatment through engaging interactions with medical professionals.
This groundbreaking endeavor highlights the importance of community support and education in fostering resilience among youth impacted by cancer. By opening registration early, organizers aim to ensure all interested families have ample time to prepare necessary documentation. Families must submit both an application form and a youth participant form by May 16. Notifications regarding acceptance will follow shortly afterward during the week of May 20. Prior to the start of camp, a preparatory dinner will take place at the organization's Davenport office, offering valuable information and addressing any concerns. Through initiatives like Camp Hope, the Cancer Support Community continues to empower individuals and families navigating the complexities of cancer, promoting hope and strength for brighter futures.
