A new digital series, “MonsterQuest: Origins,” is set to debut, expanding on the popular History Channel program focused on unexplained creatures. This six-episode online series, presented by occult expert Sapphire Sandalo, will launch on January 27 on the History Channel’s YouTube platform and website. It aims to uncover the historical roots and cultural significance of various legendary beasts.
The upcoming series delves into the authentic narratives behind some of America’s most formidable cryptid legends, as confirmed by A+E Digital. The inaugural episode will transport viewers to the Louisiana Bayou to investigate the Rougarou. The synopsis for this episode hints at a compelling exploration: “In the enigmatic bayous of Louisiana’s Tickfaw State Park, the narrative of the Rougarou blurs the distinctions between traditional stories and genuine apprehension, as ancient curses, the essence of Cajun culture, and the untamed wilderness converge to pose the question of whether this creature is a mythical entity or a cautionary tale designed for remembrance.”
Following its premiere, “MonsterQuest: Origins” will journey to Voyageurs National Park to uncover the mysteries of the Wendigo. Subsequently, the series will explore the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, the legendary dwelling of the Jersey Devil, which also inspired the name of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils team. Other featured episodes will include investigations into La Llorona from the Rio Grande region, the enigmatic Dark Watchers of Big Sur, and the elusive Boojum of Smoky Mountains National Park. Sandalo, a well-known podcaster and “paranormal historian,” brings her expertise to the series. She is recognized for creating the web series “Stories With Sapphire” and the podcast “Something Scary,” and has appeared as an expert on “Paranormal Caught On Camera” and “Paranormal Night Shift.” Additionally, Sandalo co-hosts “The Ghost Town Terror.”
The original “MonsterQuest” series airs on Friday evenings. Each hour-long installment features firsthand accounts from individuals who claim to have encountered these creatures. Frequently, these encounters involve common wildlife, though the eyewitnesses often interpret them as something more mysterious. Ted Butler serves as the executive producer for “MonsterQuest: Origins,” with Jason Buhrmester overseeing creative and editorial direction for A+E Digital. A preview of the first episode, “The Rougarou,” is available for viewing.
This new extension of the MonsterQuest universe promises to blend historical research with captivating storytelling, offering enthusiasts a fresh perspective on the enduring allure of cryptids and their place in cultural lore. The series aims to provide insights into why these legends persist and what they reveal about human imagination and our relationship with the unknown.
