This week, health inspectors conducted evaluations of numerous dining establishments in Lubbock, shedding light on the cleanliness and safety practices within these venues. Among those reviewed, Hayashi Buffet was flagged for a significant number of infractions. Key issues included improper food storage temperatures, unsanitary knife conditions, and questionable personal items present in food preparation areas. Furthermore, essential records for rice acidification were unavailable, raising concerns about sushi rice safety. Other violations involved missing date marks on perishable goods and inappropriate cleaning materials near handwashing stations.

Inspectors also noted additional infractions that contributed to an overall concerning picture at Hayashi Buffet. Various food containers were found resting directly on the floor, posing contamination risks. Water used for storing utensils between uses was well above safe temperature levels. Grease accumulation from vents above grills indicated potential hazards during cooking processes. Moreover, inadequate bathroom supplies and debris-laden packing material in coolers highlighted broader lapses in maintaining sanitary environments.

On a brighter note, several establishments excelled in their inspections, demonstrating exemplary adherence to health and safety protocols. Chester’s Chicken and Subway, both located inside Love’s Travel Shop, stood out as top performers. Additionally, Benavides Smokehouse, a food truck operation, received commendation for its high standards. These successes underscore the importance of vigilance and commitment to hygiene in ensuring public well-being and enhancing consumer trust across all dining sectors.
