Responding to a Reckless Driver Call

Deputy Ivan Clark, a 47-year-old officer, was on duty and responding to a call regarding a reckless driver near East College Avenue in Ruskin when the incident occurred. He was driving an unmarked 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on East College Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The Collision and Its Aftermath

According to law enforcement, 25-year-old Uriel Garcia Nestor of Ruskin was driving a gray 2010 Ford F-150 south on 15th Street Southeast and ran a stop sign, entering the path of the Tahoe. Impaired Driving and Arrest

Authorities later determined that Garcia Nestor was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was arrested for DUI injury, DUI property damage, and driving with a suspended license. His blood alcohol content (BAC) was measured at 0.121, well above the legal limit.

Deputy Clark's Condition and the Community's Response

Deputy Clark was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his concern for the deputy, his family, and friends, stating, "This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers impaired drivers pose to our community. It is deeply disappointing that someone would make the reckless decision to drive impaired, not only endangering their own life but putting everyone else on the road at risk."The community has rallied around Deputy Clark, offering their support and prayers for his recovery. This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from the irresponsible choice to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
