Hallmark's Kansas City Chiefs Movie Aims for a Sequel with a Request for Holiday Touchdown 2

My most hotly anticipated Hallmark movie of the season has truly captured the hearts of many. The Kansas City Chiefs-themed holiday romp, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, has become a sensation. It has emerged as the most-watched movie on the cabler this season, and now the cast is looking forward to a second Hallmark happily ever after – a sequel. We've been hearing about this movie for months leading up to its 2024 TV release, and the excitement has been building.

The Chiefs-Led Holiday Romp and the Quest for a Sequel

Movie Premise and Cast

The whole premise of Holiday Touchdown was that fans submitted their favorite Chiefs family stories or icons to prove their superfan status. The Chiefs staff then selected the best, and votes were cast for their favorites. During this process, a Chiefs staff member named Derrik (Tyler Hynes) got to know the family of Alana (Hunter King). They initially clashed over her story about a hat that brought magical wins to the Chiefs but later found common ground. This movie had a talented cast, including lead Ed Begley Jr and Megyn Price who plays Alana's mom. Their enthusiasm for a potential sequel is palpable. As lead Ed Begley Jr directly pitched, "We had the best time ever. We want to do it again. Let's do a sequel." And Megyn Price gave a big hint about what they'd like Holiday Touchdown 2 to be about by joking about calling it 'The Extra Point'.

Sentimental Moments vs. Magical Hat Storyline

Holiday Touchdown was at its best during its sentimental moments. When Derrick brought the original Chiefs stadium seats as a gift to remind the family of their matriarch grandmother who had passed away, it was heartwarming. The family spending time together and reminiscing about other Chiefs family memories also added to the cozy atmosphere. However, the main storyline involving the magic hat was a different story. I really didn't like it. It was hard to express how much I disliked it, especially considering if the Chiefs don't win the Super Bowl this year, there will need to be some forced explanations in the sequel. The only saving grace was that Derrik was a skeptic about it.Also, the idea of Santa being involved in a Hallmark Christmas movie trope just didn't work for me. I had expected Holiday Touchdown to be one of the best Hallmark movies of 2024 given its leads and supporting cast. But in the end, the way it played out wasn't as great as its individual parts.Despite my reservations, fans were clearly interested, and I'd still be excited to see what a sequel could bring. Maybe it could focus more on the family and less on the magic hat.
