Boys Bowling Team's Historic Performance

The Grundy Center boys bowling team achieved a feat that stands out in their history. Their 2,930-pin total against Charles City on Monday night is the second best team score in their history, trailing only a 2,959-pin output on December 14, 2023, against New Hampton. This comeback victory is a testament to their hard work and resilience. Each member of the team played a crucial role. Senior Jacob Hoy led the way with a 456 series, including a high game of 233. Michael Lang contributed with a 434 series, and junior Britt Meyer rolled a 424. Alex Kiewiet and Gabe McMartin also made significant contributions with series totals of 349 and 339 pins respectively. It was a team effort that led to their victory. In the very last Baker game, Grundy Center rolled up a 181 compared to Charles City's 165, securing the win. Despite losing their season opener with Decorah last Tuesday due to having members miss practices due to the state football championship run, the team showed great improvement from their first match. The captains set up the Baker lineup and let it ride, with the coaches only stepping in when needed.

Girls Bowling Team's Struggle and Growth

The young Spartan girls squad faced a tough challenge against Charles City, losing by a 2,186 to 1,645 margin. Abby Butler, one of three freshmen in the starting lineup, led Grundy with a 260 series, including games of 145 and 115. Team co-captain Quinn Beenken rolled a 241 series, followed by Mo Allen with a 233, Keely Bender at 208, and Maycee Stolzman with a 174. Unfortunately, the girls lack the experience of Charles City, but they are learning from each match. This experience will be valuable as they continue to grow and improve. The Spartans will now have a couple of weeks off before hosting the final meet of 2024 back at the Crystal Bowl against New Hampton on Thursday, December 19. They will be looking to build on their recent success and continue to develop their skills.
