The newly acquired team, led by Piotr Nerwiński, specializes in real estate finance, sustainability-linked loans, and other structured financing transactions. Nerwiński, who joins Greenberg Traurig as the head of project and structured finance, brings over a decade of experience advising on some of the region's largest wind and photovoltaic power plant financings. He has represented a diverse range of clients, including Polish and foreign banks, multilateral institutions, private debt providers, sponsors, and borrowers. This addition will significantly bolster Greenberg's expertise in the energy and natural resources sector, as well as its infrastructure and government contracts practice.
Jolanta Nowakowska-Zimoch, the managing partner of Greenberg's Poland office, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating that the new team will be a "perfect complement" to the firm's existing corporate finance practice, led by Andrzej Wysokiński. This integration will enable Greenberg to provide its clients with a more comprehensive suite of finance-related services, ensuring that their diverse needs are met in a seamless manner.
The Dentons team joining Greenberg Traurig includes two counsel and four associates, further strengthening the firm's talent pool in Warsaw. This acquisition follows Greenberg's recent addition of Klaudia Krolak, a local partner from Linklaters, in September 2023, underscoring the firm's commitment to growing its presence and capabilities in the Polish market.
Despite the departure of Nerwiński and his team, Dentons has confirmed that its 20-strong banking and finance practice in Warsaw, led by partners Bartosz Nojek and Mark Segall, continues to serve clients in Poland and across the region. The firm has also recently recruited Maciej Skoczyński, a partner from Allen & Overy, and plans to further bolster its energy, infrastructure, and tax teams in Poland in the near future.
This latest acquisition is part of Greenberg Traurig's ongoing strategy to strengthen its presence and capabilities in the Warsaw market. In the past, the firm has made similar moves, such as recruiting a seven-lawyer real estate team from Dentons in December 2021 and losing a 10-lawyer team to CMS the month before. These strategic hires and departures demonstrate Greenberg's commitment to building a robust and diverse team in Poland, capable of serving its clients' evolving needs across a wide range of practice areas.
