Ogden police have confirmed that a Greece Olympia High School teacher was the woman who died Friday when a dump truck overturned onto her car.

Jillian Branciforte, an English as a new language teacher at Greece Olympia and a 2013 Hilton High School graduate, died just two days after the first day of school.

The fatal crash occurred at Big Ridge and Manitou roads in Ogden, just before 2:45 p.m. Friday, said Ogden Police Chief Travis Gray. A 10-wheel dump truck hauling gravel overturned atop a passenger car, killing the lone person within the car – Branciforte, a 29-year-old Greece resident, he said.

The dump truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Strong Memorial Hospital. Gray said that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash. Officers continue to investigate what caused the fatal crash.

A visitation and “a celebration” of Branciforte’s life will be held during calling hours, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday – at the Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Greece, according to her obituary. A formal funeral service was not scheduled, according to the funeral home.

Who was Jillian Branciforte?

Branciforte had worked for Greece Central School District since 2018 and had been working as a new language teacher at Greece Olympia since the fall of 2019, according to district spokeswoman Laurel Heiden. She also served a National Junior Honor Society advisor and Olympia’s English as a new language team leader.

Greece Olympia High School Principal Brandin Jones described his late colleague as a woman who was kind, loving, supportive, committed and ” a downright excellent teacher.”

Teachers, students and others across the district on Monday wore purple in Branciforte’s memory. Numerous bouquets of flowers were also left in her memory on her desk at Greece Olympia according to a social media post.

After graduating from Hilton High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish from St. John Fisher University, and completed her master’s in education at Nazareth College.

Branciforte was engaged to be married and had planned a late December wedding with her fiancé Chris Blyth.
