Loewe's Runway Reveals: A Captivating Fusion of Fashion and Beauty

The Loewe fashion show at the Chateau de Vincennes this morning was a captivating display of style and artistry. From the giant screens backstage showcasing the arrival of celebrities like Ayo Edibiri and Josh O'Connor, to the meticulously crafted beauty looks by makeup artist Pat McGrath, the event was a true celebration of fashion's ability to inspire and captivate.

Elevating the Runway with Glamour and Individuality

Backstage Beauty: A Masterclass in Glitz and Glam

Backstage, the energy was palpable as Pat McGrath's team worked tirelessly to perfect the models' sparkling beauty looks. The makeup artistry was a direct reflection of Jonathan Anderson's SS25 collection, which featured sculptural sheer florals, liquidy sequin minis, and graphic tees inspired by renowned artists like Édouard Manet and Johann Sebastian Bach.McGrath revealed that her conversations with Anderson had inspired the glittering eyes that would grace the runway. "He said 'modern couture,'" she shared, already donning her signature black cat-eye sunglasses as the models prepared to take the stage. The makeup looks were a true masterclass in creativity and technique. On two models, golden arches extended all the way to the brow bone, a nod to the "half moon eyes" McGrath had previously created for Karen Elson in the early 90s. "And then we did 8 silver graphic winged eyes—beautiful, right?" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm palpable. The light caught the silver glitter, from McGrath's personal archives, creating perfect gleaming swooshes on the models who were reading paperback books. "To create the look, we have the Luminous Legends: Mega Eye Shadow Palette, she's being launched today," McGrath shared, her cheeky smile hinting at the exciting new product. The Golden Muse and Lunar Luxury pigments were used to achieve the half moons and graphic swooshes, respectively, with "real good glitter impacted on top" and, for the gold, "a little bit of cut foil." A touch of Fetisheyes mascara and the SkinFetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo completed the luminous, signature McGrath look.

Effortless Elegance: Guido Palau's Approach to Hair

Nearby, Guido Palau, the renowned hairstylist, lounged on a cushion, ready to work his magic. In contrast to last season's neon anime bangs, the hair look for this show was all about effortless elegance."So it seems that here we do hair moments, then we don't do a hair moment," Palau explained, discussing the balance he and Anderson had struck. "He has a great beauty sense of knowing what's right for Loewe, and Pat's makeup is the kind of fashion moment this time."For the hair, the focus was on natural and cool. "It's small things, you know what I mean?" Palau said, describing his approach. "We're looking at the girls' hair and just seeing if it needs a little kind of a touch up: Is the parting right? Does it need a little bit of cream in it to take some of the frizz away?"When needed, Palau would add "a little bit of Zara Hair Light Hair Balm" and let the models' natural beauty shine through. "Individuality" was always at the forefront of Anderson's mind, and Palau's approach perfectly complemented that vision.Holding back from overly styled looks can be a challenge, as Palau acknowledged. "I think women, real women, find it difficult to know if their hair looks good or messy when it's being natural," he said. "It's easier to take the curling iron or blow your hair out because you've done it then—I think women find it a little bit harder to work out if their hair looks great natural."But for this Loewe show, "effortless" was the key. "This season, Jonathan's clothes are quite out there, this ease just compliments it and makes it feel very modern," Palau added, noting that this was the kind of look that would translate beautifully to the red carpet. "Women will wear beautiful gowns and then have beautiful natural hair in different ways: undone, wet. It's a naturalness that looks so cool."
