Amidst escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, a prominent watch exhibition, originally slated for November in Abu Dhabi, has been relocated to Las Vegas for February 2027. This shift, driven by corporate travel advisories affecting participating brands and executives, highlights the broader impact of global conflicts on international business and specialized industries.
The organizers of The Escapement, an event designed to convene thousands of watch collectors and enthusiasts with leading independent brands, initially planned a November gathering at Abu Dhabi's Etihad Arena. However, prevailing corporate travel restrictions, stemming from ongoing military conflicts in the Middle East, necessitated a change in venue. Neeshu Hajra, a key executive involved in planning the event, confirmed that numerous watch companies and their representatives faced impediments to attending the Abu Dhabi show due to their internal travel policies. Consequently, the inaugural event will now be hosted at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas from February 5 to 7, 2027.
Hajra emphasized that the decision was primarily influenced by the need to ensure a robust and successful debut for The Escapement. He stated that the organizational team prioritized an environment conducive to maximum participation and optimal engagement for all attendees. The change of location, he noted, aims to mitigate uncertainties and provide a stable platform for the event, ensuring a comprehensive community experience both leading up to and during the show.
The event's original format included VIP tickets priced at approximately $1,200 USD and general admission at around $435 USD for the Abu Dhabi location. Attendees who purchased tickets for the canceled Abu Dhabi event will automatically receive full refunds. While prominent figures such as Akrivia's Rexhep Rexhepi and LVMH's Jean Arnault were initially expected speakers, their participation in the rescheduled Las Vegas event remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, most of the independent watch brands previously committed to the Abu Dhabi exhibition, including Armin Strom, Biver, Czapek, Fleming, Greubel Forsey, Romain Gauthier, Simon Brette, and Ming, are anticipated to be present in Las Vegas.
Faheem Khan, another co-founder, reiterated the importance of mitigating external influences. He explained that moving the event to Las Vegas provides organizers with greater control over the program, which is set to include a charity auction and various entertainment acts. This strategic relocation ensures that the event can proceed without being overshadowed by unpredictable geopolitical developments, offering a more certain and focused experience for all involved. This shift reflects a broader trend of industries adapting to an increasingly volatile international landscape, prioritizing logistical stability and participant accessibility above original geographical considerations.
