In a remarkable display of community spirit, the National Letter Carriers Food Drive in Humboldt County received an extraordinary contribution this year. Wild Planet Foods, a company based in McKinleyville, donated 22 pallets of canned salmon to Food for People, the local food bank. This generous act has significantly enhanced the drive's ability to support those in need across the county. The donation weighed in at an impressive 30,888 pounds and was part of a larger initiative that saw more than 70,000 pounds of food collected during the event.

A Community Coming Together to Fight Hunger

In the heart of May, amidst vibrant seasonal changes, the National Letter Carriers Food Drive took place in Eureka, California. This annual event witnessed a substantial contribution from Wild Planet Foods, whose high-quality canned salmon will be distributed through Food for People’s extensive network. Carly Robbins, Executive Director of Food for People, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Wild Planet Foods, emphasizing the impact their protein-rich donation would have on both children and senior nutrition programs.

Ben Carvalho, Global Operations & Sustainability Director at Wild Planet Foods, highlighted the significance of supporting local communities. With its headquarters in Humboldt County for over two decades, Wild Planet Foods has continually demonstrated its commitment to aiding those less fortunate. On May 10th, postal workers collected non-perishable items along their routes, resulting in over 39,000 pounds of additional food being gathered by residents. When combined with the sizable salmon donation, the total reached an impressive 70,000 pounds.
