Key Details of the Hit-and-Run

When first responders arrived, they discovered that the driver of a black car traveling westbound had seen a Habersham County deputy working on a car accident outside Baldwin's city limits. In a seemingly reckless move, the driver, identified as Christopher Hodge, 47, from Dallas, Ga, made a U-turn and hit the back of an SUV in the eastbound lane. This impact caused the SUV to spin out of control and leave the roadway. A passenger in the SUV complained of injuries, and Hodge then drove away.During the police's response to the crash, they were informed of a burglary alarm at 365 Self Storage. With the help of Alto police, they arrived at the storage facility to find that the automatic gate had been hit by a vehicle and pushed inward several feet. After reviewing the surveillance video, it was revealed that Hodge had rammed through the gate and entered the self-storage area but had never left. Police eventually found Hodge still sitting in the driver's seat of a vacant unit. The damage to the property at 365 Self Storage is estimated to be more than $15,000.While searching Hodge's car, authorities made a significant discovery. They found marijuana, methamphetamine, and open alcoholic beverage containers. As a result, Baldwin police arrested and charged Hodge with multiple offenses including Burglary (2nd degree), Criminal Damage to Property (2nd Degree), Possession of marijuana, Possession of methamphetamine, and Possession of drug-related objects. GSP is currently investigating all traffic-related offenses stemming from the car accident. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the consequences of irresponsible behavior.
