Futures Finalist Finds a Home at Texas A&M
Alejandro Michelena, a standout swimmer from Klein Cain High School, has officially committed to Texas A&M University, where he will continue to hone his skills and represent the Aggies in the pool. Michelena's impressive performance at the Futures Championship, where he became a two-time finalist, has earned him a spot on the Aggies' roster.During the 2024 Futures Championship (LCM), Michelena showcased his versatility, finishing third in the 100 fly (54.38) and fourth in the 200 fly (2:01.34), both personal bests. His success extended to the Speedo Sections in Lewisville (SCY), where he claimed first place in the 200 fly (1:45.86) and fourth place in the 100 fly (47.99).Michelena's prowess was further demonstrated at the 2024 UIL 6A State Championship (SCY), where he secured second place in the 100 free (44.62) and fourth place in the 50 free (20.33). His dominance continued at the UIL Region 4-6A Championships (SCY), where he claimed first place in the 100 free (45.52) and third place in the 50 free (20.82).Throughout his high school career, Michelena has consistently held the top times for Klein Cain High School in the 50 free and 100 fly, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the sport.Joining the Aggies: A Timely Opportunity
Michelena's decision to join the Texas A&M University swim team comes at a pivotal moment for the program. The Aggies finished fourth overall at the 2024 SEC Championships, the same as the previous year, and have welcomed a new Director of Swimming & Diving, Blaire Anderson, for the 2024-2025 season.Michelena's arrival is particularly timely, as the Aggies' top three fastest times in the 200 fly from the previous season are now held by upperclassmen. The fastest time of 1:42.41 was set by senior Clayton Conklin, followed by senior Trey Dickey with a time of 1:43.90, and junior Max Vega Cuevas with a time of 1:45.36.Michelena's impressive times in the 200 fly (1:45.86) and 100 fly (47.99) make him a valuable addition to the Aggies' butterfly group.
