The J&S Youth Theatre, now under the management of On Stage Vacaville, is set to present its latest production, "Frozen Kids," at the Will C. Wood High School Theatre for the first time. This upcoming performance marks a significant milestone for the organization as it transitions to a new venue and showcases young talent aged 5-11. Following this debut, another production, "Cinderella," aimed at actors aged 12 and above, will open later in January. Both shows were chosen for their widespread appeal and student enthusiasm. According to Deanna Gann, Program Manager, "Frozen" was selected due to its enduring popularity among children, despite being released over a decade ago. The new location offers enhanced facilities, providing a richer experience for both performers and audiences.

Since September, the team has been diligently preparing for "Frozen Kids." This version, while condensed, retains all the key elements and music from Disney's original hit. The choice of "Frozen" was driven by its timeless charm and the excitement it generates among younger audiences. Lisa Hilas, President of On Stage Vacaville, emphasized that each year the production team strives to select performances that resonate deeply with children. Despite the passage of time since "Frozen" first captivated audiences, its magic remains undiminished for today's youth. The move to Will C. Wood High School Theatre promises a more comprehensive theatrical experience, complete with dressing rooms and an equipped stage. Gann noted that this transition would better serve the production's needs compared to their previous venue, Journey Downtown Theatre.

The cast of "Frozen Kids" includes many newcomers, primarily in the 5-7 age range, reflecting the enduring allure of the story. During intermissions, audience members can participate in raffle draws and enjoy prize baskets, with proceeds supporting the theatre. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for "Cinderella," featuring a smaller cast of 20, which required double-casting of roles. This arrangement allows students to develop two distinct characters simultaneously, showcasing their versatility. Behind the scenes, numerous volunteers contribute to choreography and stage management, ensuring smooth operations. On Stage Vacaville acquired J&S Youth Theatre just a year ago, but the latter has been active in Vacaville for over two decades. The merger aligns with the organization's mission to foster self-expression and community engagement, especially among young people. Hilas highlighted the importance of providing platforms for children to build social skills and confidence through theatre.

The inclusive environment at J&S Youth Theatre ensures that everyone feels safe and supported. Even when challenging decisions arise regarding casting, the students demonstrate remarkable grace and mutual support. This spirit underscores the theatre's role as a nurturing space where young talents can thrive. As the curtain rises on "Frozen Kids," audiences can look forward to an enchanting experience filled with familiar tunes and fresh faces, promising a memorable start to the new season at Will C. Wood High School Theatre.
