Remote Area Medical (RAM), alongside the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, will host a two-day medical event on April 5-6 at the Fort Smith Convention Center. This initiative addresses critical healthcare needs by offering free medical, dental, and vision care, breaking down financial and geographical barriers that often hinder access to necessary treatments. The event promises comprehensive services including dental procedures, women's health examinations, general medical check-ups, eye exams, and even on-site eyeglass prescriptions and manufacturing.

The importance of this event is underscored by the socioeconomic conditions in the region. According to recent data, Sebastian County, where the clinic will take place, has a poverty rate of approximately 13%, while neighboring Franklin and Scott counties report rates around 19%. Such high poverty levels highlight the urgent need for accessible healthcare solutions. Since its establishment in 1985, RAM has made significant strides in providing care to over 940,000 individuals through more than 1,400 clinics across various locations. Beyond medical professionals, the event also requires volunteers for logistical support, including overnight parking assistance, setup, and teardown, as well as interpreters to help patients navigate the process.
