Kyle Fuller, a former NFL player with local roots and a Baylor University background, is returning to the Metroplex to join the Dallas Cowboys' coaching team. He will assume the roles of assistant offensive line coach and quality control coach, bringing a wealth of experience from his playing days and recent coaching endeavors.
Fuller's journey to the Cowboys includes a seven-year NFL career, during which he participated in 53 games and made 12 starts. Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, most recently serving in a quality control capacity with the Las Vegas Raiders under Pete Carroll. Prior to that, Fuller gained valuable experience as a graduate assistant at both North Carolina and Appalachian State.
A native of Duncanville, Fuller, who will turn 32 in March, was a seventh-round draft pick for the Houston Texans in 2017. His playing career also saw him with the Washington team, a brief stint with the Dolphins, and four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he played under Carroll. He concluded his professional playing days with appearances for the Broncos, Ravens, and the USFL's Michigan Panthers.
Fuller's hiring reflects a discernible pattern in the Cowboys' coaching strategy, led by head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The team appears to be building a staff composed predominantly of young, ascendant coaches, many of whom are relatively new to the NFL coaching scene. The connection to Pete Carroll is particularly noteworthy, as Fuller spent five years under Carroll's guidance—four as a player and one as a coach. This shared mentorship likely provides insight into the caliber and character of the Cowboys' newest coaching addition.
This appointment underscores the Cowboys' commitment to nurturing emerging talent within the coaching ranks, with a focus on individuals who have demonstrated a strong work ethic and a solid foundation in the sport. Fuller's diverse background, encompassing both playing at the highest level and gaining initial coaching experience, positions him as a valuable asset to the team's development and strategic planning.
