In a significant shift for Florida State basketball, head coach Luke Loucks has been restructuring both his coaching staff and player roster. Following the departure of ten out of twelve scholarship players from last season through the NCAA Transfer Portal, the program is witnessing a comprehensive transformation. Recently, Chandler Jackson became the fourth former Seminole to secure a new collegiate home, signing with Arkansas State.
Chandler Jackson's journey at Florida State began in 2022 when he joined as a top-100 recruit. Over his tenure, he developed into an integral part of the team, especially during his junior year where he averaged 6.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. His role expanded significantly this past season, serving as the primary point guard and starting in 27 out of 29 games he played. Notably, Jackson scored a career-high 19 points against Boston College in February 2024. Now, he will bring his talents to Arkansas State, which under coach Ryan Pannone achieved a commendable 25-11 record last season.
A native of Tennessee, Jackson initially entered Florida State as a promising talent. His early years were marked by consistent contributions off the bench before transitioning into a starting position. The move to Arkansas State represents a fresh opportunity for Jackson to showcase his skills and leadership over the next season. Meanwhile, Florida State appears poised with its acquisition of UMass Lowell’s Martin Somerville to fill the void left by departing guards.
As Florida State embarks on a new chapter, the influx of fresh talent and strategic adjustments promise to redefine the team's identity. With several key players moving on, including seniors Alex Steen, Chauncey Wiggins, Kobe Magee, Lajae Jones, Robert McCray V, alongside sophomores AJ Swinton, Alier Maluk, Thomas Bassong, and Cam Miles, the stage is set for a revitalized roster. Fans eagerly await the unfolding dynamics and potential growth within the revamped Seminoles squad.
