An annual family-oriented event, FishStock, is set to take place on Wednesday, April 16, at Green Lakes State Park. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring various activities centered around fish and nature. While the event itself is free, attendees are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items to support the Food Bank of Central New York, which is currently experiencing a shortage due to recent budget cuts.
At the heart of this gathering lies an initiative led by Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery, providing 1,800 young rainbow trout for children to adopt and release into Green Lake. This activity aims to promote environmental awareness among kids while ensuring safety through wristbands distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Only children wearing these bands and accompanied by adults can participate in releasing the trout.
In addition to the main attraction, numerous other activities will enhance the experience. Families can enjoy food trucks, craft stations, backyard bass fishing demonstrations, and even learn about different species at a fish identification booth. For those interested in flora, an arborist from the Town of Manlius Tree Commission will be available to address any tree-related queries.
Beyond the excitement of adopting and releasing trout, the day promises to foster community spirit and deepen appreciation for nature. With engaging activities for all ages, FishStock offers an opportunity to connect with the environment and each other, making it an event not to be missed.
