The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is making significant strides in the final stages of its $112 million renovation project at the Pocatello interchange for Interstate 86 and Interstate 15. This ambitious endeavor has seen the construction of eight new bridges, including two steel structures each spanning 414 feet and three concrete bridges totaling 387 feet. Additionally, substantial groundwork has been laid, with over 725 feet of concrete shafts and 10,000 feet of steel piles driven underground for bridge foundations. The project also boasts impressive statistics, such as 247,319 cubic yards of dirt moved, 143,500 tons of structural dirt imported, and 55,894 tons of asphalt placed. In the coming year, several critical tasks will be completed to finalize the project, including the construction of a new southbound-to-westbound ramp, removal of old ramps, and finishing the Chubbuck Road underpass.

As the project enters its final phase, ITD remains committed to completing all remaining tasks by August. The new southbound-to-westbound ramp will eliminate the need for detours, improving convenience for travelers. Removing the old northbound-to-westbound ramp and the temporary southbound-to-westbound ramp will simplify navigation through the area. Constructing the roadway north of the Pocatello Creek on-ramp will allow direct access from Pocatello Creek to Chubbuck, enhancing connectivity. Smoothing out bridge approaches will remove construction-induced bumps, providing a smoother ride. Applying a chip seal will protect the new asphalt pavement, extending its lifespan. Restriping the lanes will ensure optimal traffic flow and safety.
