This free event features artistic performances, workshops, exhibitions, and discussions dedicated to black culture and ancestry, running until June 15. Highlights include a cinematic concert by Kl Jay and Dj Brazook, alongside various music and dance celebrations that honor Afro-Brazilian traditions.
A Celebration of Black Artistry Across São Paulo
In the golden hues of spring, São Paulo is set to host the Festival Sesc Cultures Negras, a dynamic tribute to African heritage and culture. The festival kicks off on June 10th, with a diverse lineup spread across eight Sesc locations. Among the key events is a cinematic concert by Kl Jay, former member of Racionais MC’s, who teams up with producer Guilherme Chiappetta at the Casa Verde unit on June 14th. Their performance reinterprets the Oscar-winning soundtrack of "Black Panther" through live adaptations while preserving the film's original dialogue and atmosphere.
On the same day, Interlagos welcomes Batekoo for an electrifying Baile nas Margens party, blending electronic beats with traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Meanwhile, DJ Brazook takes center stage at Consolação, offering a unique selection of Latin American, African, and Caribbean sounds in an urban ballroom style. Sunday highlights include a cultural samba gathering at Casa Verde, where singer Nega Duda performs alongside sculptor Sandro Sal da Terra creating art live.
The week also features Encruzilhadas, a multidisciplinary meeting of artists from theater, music, and literature held at Vila Mariana. Additionally, guided tours organized by Sesc Pompeia explore historical sites tied to São Paulo's rich samba tradition, offering insights into its roots and evolution.
